Mikulovský zpěváček

Folk song competition for children

Mikulovský zpěváček

The competition is organised every year by the Pálava Ethnographic Association together with the management of ZŠ Mikulov, Valtická 3, p. o., under the auspices of the Town of Mikulov.

This is a competition in singing folk songs. Contestants are divided into two categories – ages 5–9 and 10–15. Winners of the older category advance to the regional round "Děti a píseň Slovácka" (Children and the song of Slovácko), held every year in Veselí nad Moravou, which is part of the nationwide competition "Děti a píseň" (Children and the Song).

Competition rules

  • Children aged 5–15 inclusive (according to the current years for each category) may take part in the competition.
  • Each contestant prepares one song (Category I) or two folk songs (Category II) from the Slovácko region, which they perform in the folk costume of that region.
  • Before the competition itself, contestants take part in a qualifying preliminary round, where they perform the competition songs with simple accompaniment.
  • Contestants apply by filling in the online application form, to which they attach the sheet music of the competition songs including keys.

Contestants can find a repertoire of suitable folk songs using the links below:

Previous editions

2025

Last year's edition of Mikulovský zpěváček, including the preliminary round, saw 36 children take part in two categories (ages 5–9 and 10–15).

For the 2025 accompaniment, a new dulcimer band led by Veronika Svačinová was formed.

Contestants were judged by an expert jury consisting of Jana Osičková, Kateřina Bartoňová, Ivo Farkaš and Jaroslav Tuček. All the children gave excellent performances. Awards outside the jury's own were also presented by Deputy Mayor Petra Korlaar.

Compared to previous years, the jury awarded more first, second and third places in both categories, as well as special prizes. New non-competitive categories of multi-part singing were also introduced for the first time.

Adam Slavík and Viktorie Koláčková from Category II of Mikulovský zpěváček advanced to the regional round of the Děti a píseň Slovácka competition.
